The data was collected as part of a collaboration between the Florida Department of Forestry, The Nature Conservancy, Florida Natural Areas Inventory, the, and the US Geological Survey, South Florida Water Management District, and National Park Service. The aerial survey was conducted to assess the feasibility of conducting state-wide monitoring of priority invasive plant species using digital aerial sketch mapping. The survey included two sampling protocols-one involving detailed mapping within randomly located 4 km2 quadrats (this dataset) and another protocol using 800km-wide belt transects across the state. The surveys were conducted by two trained observers in a fixed wing aircraft, typically flying at altitude of 500 feet above ground level. Forty four 1x4 km quadrats (east-west orientation) were flown (see GRTS_2010_Sampled.shp). Observers mapped polygons for seven invasive plant species (Casuarina spp., Dioscorea bulbifera, Imperata cylindrica, Lygodium microphyllum, Melaleuca quinquefolia, Paederia foetida, and Schinus terebinthifolius) and estimated percent cover of the mapped species using categories (<5%, 5-25%, 26-50%, 51-75%, >75%). The pilot was instructed to fly over each 4 km2 quadrat repeatedly until the observers were confident that all detectable infestations were mapped.
All polygons were recorded using a digital aerial sketch mapping (DASM) system. The DASM system comprised two networked touch-screen laptops connected to a GPS receiver, GeoLinkÂ® sketch mapping software, preloaded boundary and flight transect shape files, and 1-meter pixel true color digital imagery. Observers digitally sketched polygons of infestations for each invasive species. During post-flight data processing, shape files from both observers were combined and overlapping polygons with similar attributes were rectified. · We voted at the 1/24 annual meeting to add Okeechobee County to our CISMA, so here’s a warm welcome to Paul Miller at Kissimmee Prairie Preserve, who likes what we’re doing so much he wanted to make it official.

· Aerial surveys for Lygodium microphyllum were recently conducted by SWFWMD around their properties (Stephanie Green), may be conducted in Polk County around their properties (Tabitha Biehl-Gabbard), and there’s likely to be a test of the utility of UAV use at APAFR (Clarence Morgan) in the next week. If you’re interested in these, contact the coordinators.

· Aerial surveys past: I mentioned that SFWMD did aerial surveys in 2010 for invasives and realize I haven’t shared those data with you all yet. They are attached and include the plots that were sampled in one shapefile and the invasives recorded in those plots in the other file. It is not comprehensive but those that will want to see include managers for these properties: Lakeland Highlands Scrub, APAFR, Kissimmee Prairie Preserve, LWR WEA, and Kissimmee River.

· The 1^st 3 partner workdays focused on coral ardisia were a success! At Catfish Creek Preserve and 2 locations on the Lake Wales Ridge State Forest partners and Ridge Rangers treated this EDRR species. Keep your eyes out for it, report it on IveGot1.org, and get it treated with your own workday if you need help.
