10:00 am              Invasive Species Management Tour of DWP- Debi Stone, Eleanor Foerste, Ashley Fluke

Take a buggy ride tour at The Disney Wilderness Preserve and learn the land management history of the preserve, invasive species identification, the invasive species management program overview and specific invasive treatment projects.  Specific topics will include: historical land uses and invasive species threats, wetland and groundcover restoration projects, re-introduction of fire as a species management tool, prioritization framework for the invasive species  program, invasive species treatment history, field identification of species such as cogongrass, natal grass, torpedo grass and Wright’s nutrush, and tour of treatment projects of torpedo grass, cogongrass and natal grass.

12:30 pm              Invasive Species Identification- Early Detection and Rapid Response (EDRR)-Eleanor Foerste, Ashley Fluke, Debi Stone

Hands on activity to confirm identification of invasive species samples with explanation of EDRR efforts in Florida and how to become involved.

 

1:30 pm                Vehicle Decontamination – Debi Stone

The first part of this training will take place in the classroom, will cover the benefits and concerns of vehicle and smaller equipment decontamination and will include a brief review of the vehicle decontamination guidelines or policies of several different organizations such as Florida DEP, Montana State University Extension, FISP and Bureau of Reclamation.  The second part of this training will take place at the wash station on site, where staff will give a decontamination demonstration on a truck and a Polaris Ranger.
