I have been contacted by several county and city Code Enforcement Departments in reference to the Public Health Pest Control License (PHPC). Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services requires the PHPC pesticide license if you are performing any mosquito control activities on private, business or commercial property. This includes treatments to abandoned/foreclosed and vacant properties, i.e.: stagnant water, swimming pools, ponds, fountains, etc.
To facilitate this process, I am offering an PHPC and General Standards Core (Core) exam prep training and exam session on October 12 at the UF/IFAS Extension Hillsborough County Office. To be eligible for the license, one must pass both the Core and PHMC exams.
The training and exam session will be from 8:30 am - 4:45 pm (lunch is included). Registration is at:
http://www.prohort.eventbrite.com
The Core covers pesticide safety: mixing, loading, storing, disposing of pesticides; personal protective equipment; exposure; spill cleanup; pesticide labels; equipment calibration. The PHPC covers history in FL; types of mosquitoes and their environments; mosquito life cycle; important mosquito borne diseases; integrated mosquito management; methods of control; other pests of public health importance.
I highly recommend studying the training manuals for the license in advance of the exam prep and exam session. Materials are available at:
PHPC is a free download at the link below:
