The Tahoe Keys Property Owners Association (TKPOA) is requesting proposals for a trial of laminar flow aeration technology for water quality improvement and potential abatement of aquatic weeds in the Tahoe Keys lagoons. The proposals are due to the General Manager, TKPOA, 356 Ala Wai Blvd., South Lake Tahoe, California, 96150, no later than 4:30 p.m. local time on October 20, 2017. See below for the general announcement from Kristen Hunter and see the attached RFP for specific information.
On Friday, September 29th a Request for Bids for the Aquatic Invasive Weed Control Laminar Flow Aeration Trial was released for the Tahoe Keys lagoons in South Lake Tahoe, California. This project is specifically to help determine the effectiveness of alternative methods to control aquatic invasive plants in the Tahoe Keys lagoons.
For a little background information, the Tahoe Keys POA, is a residential association located along the south shore of Lake Tahoe, California and is comprised of three water features: Lake Tallac, Main Lagoon, and Marina Lagoon. The Tahoe Keys encompass 172 acres of waterways and 1,529 homes as well as a marina and a commercial center. Through various agreements, the Tahoe Keys Property Owners Association (TKPOA) maintains the waterways for boating and other recreation.
Since the 1980's, the Tahoe Keys lagoons have had an increasing problem with the growth of aquatic plants to the extent that the growth of these plants are significantly impacting the aquatic ecosystem, private and commercial boating, other recreation, and the aesthetics of the Tahoe Keys. In 2016, the TKPOA completed the Integrated Management Plan (IMP) for Aquatic Weeds to fulfill the obligations of the Waste Discharge Requirements (WDRs) issued by the Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board (LRWQCB). The IMP describes methods of aquatic plant control to manage the growth of the invasive weeds as effectively as possible. As part of the IMP, TKPOA proposed to investigate in detail additional methods of aquatic plant control including researching mechanical control of weeds. The IMP and other reports related to the aquatic plants can be found at www.keysweedsmanagement.org.
