Two UF Small Farms Academy programs will be conducted at the Suwannee Valley Agricultural Extension Center, near Live Oak, FL. The first program, Encouraging Pollinators, Beneficial Insects, and Other Good Guys- "A Whole-Farm Approach To Managing Pests" will be conducted on May 14th from 5 to 8:30 pm. (http://smallfarms.ifas.ufl.edu/calendar/2013_0514_SmallFarmerIPM.pdf). This event will demonstrate tactics to manage pests on a diversified farm using a whole farm approach including farmscaping, encouraging native pollinators, protecting beneficial insects, using trap crops, encouraging beneficial vertebrates, and other innovative monitoring systems. The second program is a "Mixed Fruit Orchard Field Day" to be held Saturday, June 8th from 9 am to 12:30 pm. (http://smallfarms.ifas.ufl.edu/calendar/2013_0608_MixedFruitOrchardFieldDay.pdf). This event will discuss aspects of developing and managing a small mixed orchard primarily targeted at local direct sales.
