As some of you are aware, in 2010 Tim and I plus a group at DPI and USDA-APHIS-CPHST developed matrix-based keys using the LUCID software as part of an ornamental palm resource tool. Keys with fact sheets are currently available for (note the fact sheets are different from the EDIS pubs):
· Ornamental palm identification: http://itp.lucidcentral.org/id/palms/palm-id/index.html
· Basic Identification of Arthropod Pests: http://itp.lucidcentral.org/id/palms/sap/
· Symptoms of Disorders and Diseases: http://itp.lucidcentral.org/id/palms/symptoms/
NOW, those techno gurus with USDA have turned these keys into apps – and they are absolutely FREE!!!! The android version is now available – link below. The iOS version (Apple products) should be out in November, although with the government shut down, it may be delayed.
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=USDA%20APHIS%20ITP&c=apps&hl=en
Google play store – search “USDA APHIS ITP” or use the link above.
We would love to know what you think of these apps, especially since I still have a flip phone. So, download, give them a try and spread the word to your clientele group.
Cheers,
Monica
