Salvinia molesta ERADICATED from SW FL!

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) with the assistance of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has eradicated Salvinia molesta from Big Cypress Basin/Naples area.

The SFWMD cooperative effort with FWC funding is ongoing, and Dennis Giardina (FWC) is continuing to monitor.  The "new" herbicide GALLEON (penoxsulam) afforded more thorough control than available with prior primary material, diquat dibromide.

At last report, the plant can no longer be found in the areas it had been present for many years. Last year in the FLEPPC Wildland Weeds publication,  Matt Phillips reported a similar panhandle effort which was the model for this successful effort.
