Course Description:
The ability to develop effective sampling designs is critical for any scientific research or monitoring project. Monitoring change in vegetation over time is an essential tool for effective natural resource management. This week-long hands-on course emphasizes the statistical basis underlying vegetation sampling designs, providing students with training that will make them proficient in the development of effective monitoring protocols. The course consists of 6 full days of lectures intermixed with data collection in the field and group learning exercises. A final project will be due 1 month later.
Grades:
Letter grades will be assigned on the basis of worksheets completed during the course (30%), an in-class group project due the last day of the course (30%), and an out-of-class independent final project due one month after the final day of class (40%).
Students need instructor permission to register. Please contact Holly Ober for permission, or for any other questions about this course (holly.ober@ufl.edu; 850-875-7150).
