Dear Community Leader in Florida:
You are invited to attend a meeting to learn about an important program. It concerns Hispanic and women farmers and ranchers who may have experienced discrimination, during certain periods between 1981 to 2000 when they sought loans or credit benefits from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Earlier this year, you may have heard that USDA and the U.S. Department of Justice announced a program making over $1.33 billion available to implement a significant claims resolution process for Hispanic and women farmers and ranchers. The success of this program depends on effective outreach and notification to Hispanic and women farmers and ranchers. We need your help to spread the word.
As a community leader I hope you will attend this meeting and learn more about the outreach program and how we can work together to inform Hispanic and women farmers and ranchers about this proposed claims effort. Please be aware that this meeting is to discuss the general plan for the claims process; unfortunately, USDA will not be able to discuss the details of any individual claim at the meeting.
Secretary Vilsack has made civil rights one of his top priorities at USDA. Please help us reach out to inform community members about this program.
Sincerely,
Tim Manning, State Executive Director
