WEBINAR: Florida Farm to School - Understanding School Food Service

Webinar for Florida Growers/Producers:

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) is committed to support Florida growers by assisting school districts to source products grown or raised in their region, to the maximum extent possible. Our goals at the Division include educating students and parents on the importance of the agricultural community in Florida by creating an awareness of the available agricultural products, the nutritional value of food grown and raised in the state and potential career paths in agricultural sciences.

In an effort to further assist growers and producers with providing produce to Florida schools, FDACS will host an online webinar on Thursday, September 12, 2013, at 10:00 a.m., Eastern Standard Time.

The purpose of this webinar is to educate growers and producers on the role that school food service plays in feeding children. We will discuss the overall goals of the food service department within each district and outline how school food service directors obtain products (specifically produce), what factors are important to them when purchasing from a grower/producer and how they price each meal to determine the portion allocated to fresh produce. We will also allow for a question and answer session so growers may obtain the information necessary to provide products to schools.

You can join this online meeting using a program called WebEx.

To join the WebEx session, you must first:

1)    Determine where you will go to have computer and phone access to the presentations (preferably a quiet, undisturbed location); and
