Beef Units Student employment opportunity

We are again looking for student employees for the two Beef Cattle Research Units in Alachua County.

We have openings for two or more students on the Beef Unit (on CR 225 by the Gainesville Raceway) and the Santa Fe Unit (at the North end of the county on CR 241).

The jobs are general ranch labor doing things such as feeding cattle, cleaning and repairing cowpens and fences, mowing grass and tending the grounds, tractor operation (hay work, rotary mowing, etc.), working cattle, tagging calves, cleaning facilities, etc.  We need students (UF or SFCC) who are willing to work primarily on weekends and holidays.  This would be a good opportunity for students majoring in Animal Science, Ag. Education, Agronomy, Mech. Ag., pre-Vet., or a number of other related majors.  This is a good opportunity for a student to get paid (and have housing) while learning about Beef Cattle Management, veterinary procedures, pasture management, hay making, and other farm work.

We prefer someone who has at least a little experience handling cattle and/or operating equipment or at least driving a vehicle with a clutch.  These positions consist of hard work in all types of weather.  We expect the employee to work 16 hours in a typical week.  If experienced at all, we can pay $9.00/hr.

Housing with provided utilities is available at each unit, and a live-on employee is highly preferred.  However, we will consider hiring a commuting employee.

Please  contact me at 352-538-1401 or if you have any questions or are interested in the position.
