Dear Florida Aquatic Plant Growers:
I would like to invite you to attend an aquatic plant research and production meeting on Monday, August 13, 2012 at the University of Florida IFAS Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center. The goal of this meeting is to identify research needs and priority areas for the Aquaculture Research Council and to update the Florida Aquaculture Plan. The meeting will be jointly hosted by me (Dr. Lyn Gettys, UF/IFAS Aquatic and Wetland Plants Lab), Pierre LePochat (Aquatic Plants Representative to the Aquaculture Research Council) and Paul Zajicek (Division of Aquaculture, Florida DACS).
The tentative agenda is as follows:

9:30 am: What’s Up at the FLREC (Dr. Lyn Gettys)
10:30 am: Aquatic Plant Grower Research Needs: Updating the Florida Aquaculture Plan

1:00 pm: Cultivating and Selling Waterhyacinth Out-of-State (Steve Hildebrandt)

I have been asked by Paul Zajicek of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to host a meeting for aquatic plant growers to review and revise the Florida Aquaculture Plan. We are hoping to have input from growers throughout the state and I think the best way to reach our stakeholders is through Extension. You and your agents know your clientele better than anyone, so if you could pass along the attached invitation to aquatic growers or other interested parties in your county, I’d appreciate it.
Thanks so much – have a great day and Go Gators!
