The introduction and spread of non-indigenous aquatic invasive species in marine and freshwater environments have resulted in significant, negative impacts both economically and ecologically. Next to habitat loss, invasive species are considered to be the second greatest threat to native biological diversity.

Plan to Participate in ICAIS 2013

The Canada-Ontario Invasive Species Centre is hosting the 18th International Conference on Aquatic Invasive Species from April 21-25, 2013 at the Sheraton-on-the-Falls Hotel and Conference Center in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.

This conference series is widely considered the most comprehensive international forum on aquatic invasive species, and continues to evolve to address new and emerging issues.

Presentations will include the review of accumulated scientific knowledge; latest research findings; introduction of new technologies for prevention, monitoring and control; discussion of policy and legislation; and education and outreach initiatives to raise awareness of the issues with the general public.

The structure of this year's conference involves a general plenary session each morning, with an invited keynote presentation by a noted scientist. Four concurrent sessions follow, each opening with an invited speaker to introduce the session theme and provide their particular insight and perspective based on their own work and broad experience. These "big picture" introductions will be followed by a day of presentations covering a range of topics within each session theme.
