PLEASE HELP

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Marina D'Abreau,Urban Horticulture Agent II with the Hillsborough County Extension Office, has requested our help on a very worthy project that she is working on with the Hillsborough County Correctional Institution in Balm.  Please read Marina's email below and contact her at mdabreau@ufl.edu or 813-744-5519 x145 if you are able to be of assistance.
FROM MARINA:
Recognizing the fact that recent economic conditions have been very difficult on many in the landscape industry, I hesitate to send this e-mail, but I'd rather ask and fail than give up without trying.
As part of my Extension outreach program, I have initiated a pilot horticulture training program with female inmates at the Hillsborough Correctional Institution in Balm, FL. This is a faith- and character-based state prison aimed at providing vocational certifications and betterment programs to the inmates as a way to improve their chances of re-entering society, obtaining gainful
employment and reducing recidivism rates.
After 16 weeks, I am proud to say that 19 women successfully completed the training and passed a rigorous, 100-question final exam with a score of 80% or higher.
Part of the program was a landscaping project on the prison grounds. The inmates came up with the design and plant choices, based on the site characteristics and other factors. The goal is to implement the design and install the landscape on Saturday, June 26th (although this may have to be flexible based on donations). I am requesting donations of plant materials and mulch. The inmates will prepare the site and install and maintain the plants; in the process, they will gain even more hands-on experience and skills that will supplement all they have learned during this course. If this is successful, future attempts will be designed to be more sustainable, so that the participants propagate their own
plants over the 16-week course so that the majority of materials needed for their landscape project will be generated in-house. But donations are desperately needed for this first attempt.
If you can help in any way, please let me know. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Here's a list of what is needed:
·        3' Plumbago - 13
·        1' Firespike - 13
·        1' Liriope - 19
·        15' Crape Myrtle (preferably standards) - 2
·        1' Purple Queen - 31
·        Organic mulch (any kind) - 12 cubic yards
I need to start organizing donations rather quickly, since the prison will have to be notified in advance when certain items will be delivered, etc. If you would like to help, please contact me ASAP by e-mail(mdabreau@ufl.edu<mailto:mdabreau@ufl.edu>) or phone (813-744-5519 x145).
Thank you, in advance, for your contributions.
Marina
