Canola on its way to becoming a first-class crop:
Winter canola might soon be the crop of choice for Pacific Northwest farmers, thanks to studies by an ARS agronomist and others who have shown that, with slightly different management practices, this annual plant can be used to control weeds, supplement animal feed, and even produce biodiesel. Small business success based on ARS-developed technology highlighted at conference:
The transformation of ChoiceBatter--an ARS-developed, rice-flour-based batter that absorbs up to 50 percent less oil in deep-frying--from a federal laboratory bench technology to a grocery store product was spotlighted this week by ARS officials and other participants at the 17th annual conference of the National Association of Seed and Venture Funds.
