Sustainable Ag Grants

Hello SARE Supporters!

                A lot of grants and conferences are coming down the chute as we move into Fall.  I’ll try to be as concise as possible and I urge you to pass these notifications on to your friends and colleagues and if they would like to be on the listserv, please let  me know.  The more the merrier!

 

Grants Available:

A new round of Southern SARE grants are available.  Calls for proposals can be found here at the regional website.

Sustainable Community Innovation Grants:

Up to $10,000 for two years to develop projects that link sustainable agricultural practices with community development objectives.  More information can be found at the link above, due Oct 1.  This grant is available to any individuals, non-profit organizations, for-profit organizations, governmental organizations and/or educational organizations located in the Southern region.   

Producer Grant Program

Available to producers and producer organizations.  Up to $10,000 for producers or $15,000 for producer organizations is available over a two year period.  The grant is to conduct research projects to solve producing or marketing problems so this information can be disseminated and used by other producers. Due Nov. 15th.

On-Farm Research Grant

On-Farm Research Grant Projects must be developed, coordinated and led by Extension, NRCS, governmental or non-governmental organization (NGO) or University personnel who currently work with farmers/ranchers AND who will conduct the on-farm research with at least one farmer/rancher cooperator.  Applicants must complete a proposal describing their project and explaining how it will help producers understand and adopt sustainable agriculture practices. Up to $15,000 over two years due Nov. 15th .

AGRItunity 2011 – January 29th, 2011.  Sumter, Citrus, Pascoe & Hernando Counties have gotten together to hold a conference at the Sumter County Fairgrounds.  Stay tuned to http://sumter.ifas.ufl.edu/Agritunity/index.shtml , where more information will become available.

Small Farm Growers Series: Making Direct Marketing Work for You: Tuesday, Sep 28th .   This FREE training workshop will be held at the Indian River REC in Ft. Pierce, FL.  It is free but they ask that you pre-register.  More information, including directions,  can be found in the attached flyer “Growers Series Direct Marketing”.

Food Safety for Local Growers: Understanding Your Foodservice Distributor’s Requirements: October 15th, 2010.  This workshop is in Orlando, FL and will include hands on demonstrations and discussions about developing customized food safety programs based on individual business models.  More information can be Found in the attached flyer “Local Grower Symposia”.

68th Annual Professional Agricultural Workers Conference.  Tuskegee, AL - December 5th – 7th , 2010. Theme: Empowering underserved farmers and rural communities by changing legislation, USDA eligibility requirements, and program delivery.  More information at www.pawc.info .

Community Food Security Coalition’s 14th Annual Conference.  New Orleans, LA . October 16th -19th , 2010.  More info can be found at www.communityfoodconference.org
