UF/IFAS GCREC's 'Festival' Strawberry an International Favorite

This year 500,000 plants of ‘Festival’ are being grown in Iraq, and it is basically the only variety being grown there.  There is a typo in the article that says it is a “California” variety.  Replace that with “Florida” and it will read correctly.

Three years ago Bob Nottleman of Eckland Marketing Company visited bedraggled Iraqi strawberry fields wearing a bullet-proof vest, escorted by armed guards.  Now, thanks to their efforts to introduce ‘Festival’ to that region, the industry in Iraq is now experiencing growth.
