Greetings,
To clarify confusion concerning the application of nitrogen or iron to turfgrass we are attaching the link to the new EDIS publication (ENH1174) “The Lawn Fertilizer toolbox” by Laurie Trenholm, Jason Kruse, and Bryan Unruh. http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ep435
Many Florida-Friendly LandscapingTM educational materials, as well as UF/IFAS EDIS publications, suggest that chelated iron may be used to “greenup” a lawn without increasing growth in summer months. In contrast, nitrogen is needed to sustain growth during active growth period of turfgrass. However, it is important to realize that iron cannot replace nitrogen nor are they interchangeable.
We appreciate your outreach work. Please let us know if you have additional questions.
Thanks,
E
