USDA Environmental Quality Incentives Program Organic Initiative

Due: March 4, 2011

USDA has $50 million available for organic growers, those transitioning to organic farming systems, and exempt producers. The program provides financial and technical assistance to growers to implement conservation practices like cover cropping, pest management, crop rotation, stream buffers, hedgerow planting, and various other practices. Interested producers have until March 4, 2011, to sign up for the 2011 program. Visit the website for more information.

Canadian Organic Growers has published a series of practical skills handbooks that incorporate the latest research, farmer profiles and farmer wisdom to pass on vital technical information. National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition call for Farmers and Ranchers

The National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC) recently launched a new initiative to give farmers and ranchers more quality exposure to the media. The initiative consists of two parts: a media toolkit and other training resources to help farmers effectively present themselves to reporters (to “tell their story”), and a database of farmers and ranchers who are willing to make themselves available to the media for periodic interviews.
