For more information click on our E-Verify website. | OCCUPATION PROFILE JOB FAMILY: LIFE, PHYSICAL AND SOCIAL SCIENCE OCCUPATIONAL GROUP: LIFE AND PHYSICAL SCIENCE OCCUPATION: ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTISTS AND SPECIALISTS, INCLUDING HEALTH 19-2041 Job Description: Coastal Training Assistant Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Naples, Florida Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (www.rookerybay.org) in Naples, Florida seeks a full-time, OPS contract employee to assist with the Coastal Training Program (CTP). The CTP (http://nerrs.noaa.gov) works with professionals to resolve complex environmental issues of local significance and through training, field education and networking, professionals benefit from science-based information, skills and access to technology and partnerships. This is primarily an administrative job assisting the CTO Coordinator and other CTP staff to conduct programs and implement coastal management projects. It is an office position, although occasional outdoor work and instate travel is necessary. Key tasks of this position include: - Assist in the delivery of training programs, with focus on the Green Industries Best Management Practices training, in both English and in Spanish for landscape and lawn care professionals. This includes scheduling dates, speakers and locations, conducting high quality programs including registration, tracking payment, attendance, materials, certification, test scores, and arranging logistics, setting up rooms, etc.
- Assist in the design and delivery of educational programs, including giving presentations and speaking publicly at trainings or events.
- Data entry to maintain mailing lists, registration, evaluations and reports, including the bi-annual NOAA report.
- Answer phones, take registrations, answer questions, thus providing customer service
- Ordering supplies and materials, including completion of purchasing paperwork.
- Create, produce, order and/or distribute materials including workshop announcements, web postings, flyers, and other event and training materials as necessary.
- Conduct research on environmental topics and issues for use in programs.
- Participate in Rookery Bay/DEP events, meetings, trainings and work days.
- Represent Rookery Bay, DEP and partners in a professional manner and work collaboratively with public and private partners to implement our mission.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Essential: Candidates must speak and write English and have a valid driver’s license. Candidate must have excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing; excellent organizational skills including detail-oriented and the ability to organize events; proficiency in Word, PowerPoint and Excel; ability to work well with others, including volunteers and staff; ability to set up workshops, move tables and carry binders. Bachelor’s degree required, with preference to fields such as education, science, natural resources or policy. Preferred: Verbal and written Spanish language skills are preferred; experience in organizing professional training programs; able to design flyers and outreach materials; be adept at working with diverse audiences including teaching, speaking or outreach experience Work Location, Compensation and Contact Information The position is located at the Rookery Bay Headquarters (300 Tower Rd, Naples, FL 34113), and will report to the Rookery Bay Coastal Training Coordinator. The candidate will become OPS personnel for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). There are no benefits, paid holidays or sick leave provided at this time. Salary range is $29,000 – $34,000 and is grant-funded for at least one year, with likely additional funding. Start date is November 1, 2011 and end date is to be determined.
