Kids and diabetes risk: Do chromosomes hold new clues?
Children who have a high risk of developing type 2 diabetes might be identified earlier by way of tell-tale genetic indicators known as biomarkers that could be pinpointed in research under way at the ARS Children's Nutrition Research Center in Houston, Texas, with funding support from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service's National Institutes of Health. Healthy plant sterols: A daily "drip" is best:
Authors of an ARS-supported study have found that blood plasma low-density lipoprotein (LDL or "bad" cholesterol) is lowered most when healthful plant sterols and stanols are consumed in smaller amounts more often throughout the day, rather than in one large amount each day. (9/21)

A new partnership in Texas:
