InnovATE at Virginia Tech is Hiring

We are hiring a Multimedia Learning and Communication Specialist at the Office of International Research, Education and Development on campus at Virginia Tech. This position will support the Innovation for Agricultural Training and Education (innovATE) project. See details below.


Position Summary:

The Multimedia Learning and Communication Specialist's primary responsibilities will involve implementing innovATE's digital learning and communication strategy, editing articles, reports, blogs, etc. of others, preparing a quarterly newsletter and other communication products, and writing occasional blogs, articles, and news releases. Specifically, work with faculty, staff and partners activities to organize and prepare instructional materials and learning programs for delivery in a variety of media targeting developing country practitioners and policy makers in agricultural education; edit existing curricular materials; write/update procedural documentation; provide quality assurance for all learning and communication products. This position is also expected to independently identify and maintain familiarity with current technologies for creating and delivering instructional materials; communicate with subject matter experts to identify potential enhancements of existing systems and educational materials; participate in planning of various learning opportunities; attend OIA Communicators meetings; respond to technical and general inquiries; and to identify newsletter article topics, write articles, edit articles and reports of others, lay out, publish, and distribute finished newsletters on time and on budget.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in education, international agricultural development or related fields; technical writing experience; strong writing and editing skills; strong analytical and technical competencies; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously; ability to communicate complex subject matter to non-technical audiences; strong computer skills in MS Office and Adobe Suite; excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to work in a fast-paced office with frequent short-notice deadlines; ability to plan and organize work independently and collaboratively to deliver products on schedule.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in education and international agricultural development, or related fields. Experience in website administration; InDesign, PageMaker, Photoshop, Wordpress, and Dreamweaver; writing and proofing scientific documents; distance education, social media, database and content management; in a donor-funded project in a developing country; and proficiency with a foreign language (preferably French or Spanish).
