Florida Organic Growers, East End Market and Local Roots Distribution have partnered to host the Second Annual Florida Local Food Summit slated for Friday, September 18 through Sunday, September 20 at the Straughn Center, 2142 Shealy Drive in Gainesville.

The summit will be an opportunity for our state's farmers, foodpreneurs, consumers and policy makers to come together to grow Florida's local food movement through both introductory and advanced coursework, beautiful farm-to-table meals and hands-on educational workshops.

The keynote speaker for the Summit is Dr. David Shields from the University of South Carolina, author of Southern Provisions: the Creation and Revival of a Cuisine. He will be speaking about flavorful heirloom fruits and vegetables we can grow here in Florida.

Sessions include a variety of topics such as how to build a statewide local food campaign, a workshop on farmers market displays and sales techniques as well as best practices for harvesting and packing, how to become certified organic and how to build an aquaponics system, to name a few. In addition, an entire educational track will focus on humane animal husbandry for both livestock producers and integrated farmers.

To learn more about the Summit, including the educators and speakers and additional sessions, or register to sponsor, please visit the website at www.floridafoodsummit.com.

See you there!
