West Central Uplands Working Group meeting dates, annual workplan update, job openings, DOR snakes sought

If you are planning to apply for FWC funding for invasive plant management work, take note of the message at the bottom of this email, but first a few other items:

1.       Your Heartland CISMA steering committee met last week and developed an annual workplan for 2014 which will be shared by the end of the month. If you have any project ideas, we’d love to hear them and you are always welcome to help steer!

2.       Job possibilities: Stephanie Green invites you to apply for the attached SWFWMD position closing 4/27, and 3 Biological Scientist IV positions with FWC are currently being advertised.  The positions are based in Tallahassee and are for the herp, bird, and mammal taxa coordinators.  More information People First.

3.       Dead on road snakes sought for research. Melissa Miller  (Auburn University) is looking at parasites in native and nonnative snakes in Florida. Collect DOR snakes for her dissertation research- they need to be fresh-ish (ie., not flat).  Please include information on capture location - GPS coordinates or  street info.  We will need snakes for at least the rest of the year - unless we get more than we can handle! For more info, contact: Christina M. Romagosa, Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation University of Florida PO Box 110430 Gainesville, FL 32611; Office: 352.273.3996; cmromagosa@ufl.edu

4.       Ch-ch-ch-changes:

“We are needing to make some changes to the Pre-ranking Meetings!  Please see below for the corrected dates, times and LOCATION:

·         Pre-Ranking Meeting on Wednesday – APRIL 23rd  at Circle B Bar Reserve starting at 10:30 am

Circle B Bar Reserve

4399 Winter Lake Road

Lakeland, Fl 33803

·         Another Pre-Ranking Meeting (you only need to attend one) on Wednesday - May 7th at DISNEY WILDERNESS PRESERVE starting at 1:30 pm (after the LWREWG meeting concludes)

·         RANKING MEETING will be Wednesday May 21st at Circle B Bar Reserve starting at 10:30 am.

Circle B Bar Reserve

4399 Winter Lake Road

Lakeland, Fl 33803

I know this is short notice, but since we are changing the meeting location on May 7th I still want to provide a training that is more centrally located for our working group. In addition, through feedback from other working groups going through this process more time has been requested between the Pre-ranking meeting and the actually ranking meeting. Please please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you!”
