SWFSFN Update: Soil and tissue testing opportunity for producers with established bahiagrass

Hello, members and supporters of the SW FL Small Farmer Network (SWFSFN).  I'm sharing with you an excellent opportunity to our small farmer livestock producers from the UF/IFAS Ona Range Cattle REC in Hardee County.  The email below describes a new program offering free soil sample service to those of you in the watersheds of the Peace River, Manasota, and Alafia River Basins.  Act fast, however, the free offer is limited to the first 200 samples submitted!!  As always, please, help me distribute this information to livestock producers that you may know and that qualify.

FYI - here's the information that I've received about it:

Free Soil and Plant Tissue Testing for Established Pastures in the Peace River, Manasota, and Alafia River Basins

Soil and plant tissue testing are excellent tools for identifying lime and fertilizer requirements in pastures. The University of Florida-IFAS Range Cattle Research and Education Center in Ona will be offering free testing for the first 200 samples of soil and plant tissue received between April 1 and June 30, 2010. In addition to the test results, participants will receive fertilizer recommendations and copies of educational materials related to fertilization management. Both soil and plant tissue samples must be submitted together to qualify for the program.  For additional information on proper soil and tissue sampling, please contact your local county extension office. If you would like to participate or have questions about the program, please contact Reyna Speckmann, Extension Scientist, at the Range Cattle Station, or visit our web site at http://rcrec-ona.ifas.ufl.edu.

The RCREC website will provide additional instructions and information regarding this program.  I would greatly appreciate any assistance you office can provide in sharing this opportunity with livestock producers.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.  Thank you, in advance, for your assistance and support of this program,
