Terpene grant news release

Friends and Colleagues,

I am very pleased to announce that two IFAS Scientists have hit a huge homerun with a Department of Energy Grant!

Congratulations to Gary Peter and John Davis from the UF/IFAS School of Forestry who were awarded a $6.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to develop genetically improved loblolly pine trees that will produce more terpene, which would be used as a biofuel. Please see the attached news release for more information on this exciting project. The results of this research, besides helping with our country's energy independence, also could revitalize the turpentine industry and become an economic engine in creating more jobs.

CONGRATULATIONS Gary and John for this exciting opportunity for UF/IFAS!

Jack
